Roasted Chestnuts

This is one of the chance experiences in florence. As we were walking back to our hotel in the evening we could smell something grilling. Soon enough we spotted a man flame grilling some chestnuts.

Lots of kids and adults alike were soon lining up and we also got a bag ourselves. The chestnuts were in a big bag with a smaller bag glued to the big one for the shells.

On a slightly cool evening holding this hot bag of chestnuts is a treat itself. The shell is cut before roasting so its very easy to peel and the flesh is a just morsel of a reward. Slightly charred by the flames this tastes warm, sweet slightly salty and smoky. This is a perfect snack.

The location of this cart was in Florence city center near the puma store but i assume it changes. We also saw and indulged in more chestnuts a couple of days later not too far from the first cart.
