Carapina is tucked away in a small alley and if you are not careful you might miss it. But this place serves some of the exciting gelato’s.

One thing we learnt that there is a gelato store on every corner. However not all gelatos are created equal. Most times there people compensate for real taste and quality with an abundance of flavors and these gelatos are laden with sugar. However at Carapina the flavors are limited. They are strictly seasonal, and yes they taste of the fruit they come from and not of sugar. I heard their strawberry was magnificient, but guess what i will have to come back for it during the season. I love that, because only then is it magnificent. The wall shows the seasons and shows when a particular flavor could be available.

I also paired their pistachio which was excellent with some hazelnut and the pairing works wonderfully. The people in Florence are always smiling and helpful. If you cycle through all the pictures we took on this trip of people in restaurants, they almost always have a smile and welcoming nature.

I find out that the fruit flavors are all sorbetto’s. I try the Grapes one and am blown over. I might not like grapes as much as i liked the sorbetto. The hint of acidity just like in a wine really helps. With the grapes i pair some chocolate.
