Mirchicha Bharit
August 14, 2016 by BreakingNaan in Recipes

What is Mirchicha Bharit

Mirchicha Bharit is a dish my mom makes with fire roasted chillis and yogurt. Generally the ones used are the hot chilli peppers. However that means you can’t eat a lot of this dish on its own but instead treat it as a side.

However last month we came across some delightful sweet banana peppers and green peppers ready for harvest. After seeing them i knew i wanted to make mirchicha bharit with them. As we used a mixture of different sweet peppers, the smaller green ones behing slightly hot we could mix them to get a dish that was slightly mellower than the usual mirchicha bharit.

Our Mirchicha Bharit

We heat the oven to 350 F and rub the peppers with oil and a sprinkling of salt. We cook them in the oven for 20 minutes and finish with a 5 minute high broil.

This results in delightfully charred peppers which you then just have to chop coarsely, getting rid of the seeds as much as possible.

We then take a cup of yogurt and season it with salt and a pinch of sugar. Then spread it out in a serving dish making room in the centre. Add the chopped chills. Sprinkle with a tea spoon of chopped fresh coconut, a spoon of chopped peanuts and some cilantro. Drizzle a little bit of olive oil which is not traditional and optional. Better yet is to use one of those flavor infused olive oils. something with chili or garlic works great. we used some harissa flavored oil and it was stupendous. Serve it as a tapas platter or with other grilled vegetables.
