Vivoli gelato in Florence was made quite famous by “i will have what phil is having”. We definitely wanted to come down here at least once and in the end ended up coming twice.
The shop is tucked away in lanes of florence and is quite unassuming.
You can get upto 3 flavors but have to make sure to get the coupon paid first at the cash counter. I obviously immediately tried the cream and also mandarino.
Meg tried the chocolate as wel as pistachio. This pistachio was outstanding and in hindsight the best pistachio gelato we had in florence. Every bite seemed natural and fresh and concentrated with flavors of 100 pistachios in a spoonful. More importantly it was not cloyingly sweet to override the flavors.
I liked crema but not as much as Phil. However i was bowled over by the mandarino. It was bursting with fresh scent as if being in a orange orchard. Every now and then there would be the orange tidbits that would burst with flavors. This was one of the best and unique gelato flavors we had this trip. If you look at the pictures you can tell that pistachio is not dark green and orange is not bright orange, they emphasize flavors over artificial colors here.
